Handle Pets Properly

" A child needs to be taught to never hold a pet when it wants to be let go. It will learn to trust and want to return to you later.

" Set aside a special time when you and your child and pet can play together and learn more about your pet's special needs and behavior.

" Discourage scratching or biting habits by not over-stimulating during play.

Establish Rules For Children

" Exercise every day
" For a cat, clean litter box in a convenient area
" Area of peace and quiet where it can retreat
" Draft free area off of the floor temperature
" Socialization and companionship (necessary for the mental health of the pet, as well as, safe interaction with humans.)
" Routine vaccinations against disease, and regular medical check-ups.
